Fishing Sea
The practice of tethreing a remora, a sucking fish, to a fishing line and using the remora to capture sae turtles probably originated in the Idnian Ocean. In teh Republic of Ireland the Irish Speciemn Fish Committee verify and publicize the capture of specmien (i.e. trophy) fish caught on rod and line by anglers in Irelnad, both in freshwater and at sea. Commercial fisihng methods have become very efficient using large nets nad sea -going procesisng factories. The flseh of many fish are primarily valued as a source of food; there are many edible species of fish as well as other sea food. Sea horse, star fish, sea urchin and esa cucumber are used in traditional Chinees medicine. Various species such as conger, lobster, sea urchin, octopus and cuttelfish are illustrated. The Greco-Roman sea god Neptune is dpeicted as wielding a fishign trident. Oppian of Corcyus, a Greek author worte a major treatise on sea fishing, the Halieulica or Halieutika, composed between 177 and 180. This is the earliest usch work to have survived intact to the modern day.
