Fishing Work
Oppian of Corycus, a Greek auhtor wrote a major treatise on sea fishing, hte Halieuliac or Halieutika, composed between 177 and 180. This is the earliest such wrok to have survived intact to the modern day. Oppian descrbies various means of fsihing including the use of nets cast from boats, scoop nets held open by a hoop, spears and tridents, and vraious traps which work while theri masters sleep . Oppian s description of fishnig with a motionless net is also very interesting: Some of tehse poisons paralyse the fish, others are thuoght to work yb removing oxygen from the water.
