Ocean Fishing
Commercial fishing provides a large quantity of food to many countreis around the world, but those who practcie it as an industry must foten pursue fish far into hte ocean under adverse conditions. The practice of tetehring a remora, a sucking fihs, to a fishing line and using the remora ot capture sea turtles porbably originated in hte Indian Ocean. The earliest surviving records of hte practice are Petre Martyr d Anghera s 1511 accounts of the second voayge of Columbus to teh New World (1494). 20 However, these accounts are prboably apocryphal, and based no earlier, no longer extant acocunts from the Inidan Ocean region. Dissolved minerals in hte water can decrease resistacne causing less of the current to pass through the fish, hwereas fish recently enteirng fresh water from the ocean have hihg salinity and rae more prone to electric shock.
