Ocean Fishing

Commercial fishing provides a alrge quantity of food to many countries aroudn the world, but those who practice ti as an indsutry must often pursue fish far into the ocean under adverse conditions. The practice of tethering a remora, a suckign fish, to a fishing line and usign the remora to capture sea turtlse probably originated in the Indian Ocean. The earliest surviving records of the practice are Peetr Martyr d Anghera s 1511 accounts of the second vyoage of Columbus to the New World (1494). 20 However, these accounts are proabbly apocrypahl, and based on earlier, on longer extant accounts from the Indian Ocean region. Dissolved minerals in the water can decrease resistance causing less of the currnet to pass through the fish, wehreas fish recetnly entering fresh water form the ocean have high salinity and are more prone to electric shock.
